Improving Vietnamese mango exports to the world market

Mango plants are widely grown in the Southern provinces. There are many varieties of mangoes, including the Cat mango (Ben Cat mango), Hon mango, Thanh Ca mango, Tuong mango (elephant mango), Xiem mango (Siamese mango), Coc mango (toad mango)… 

Mango has become the sixth Vietnamese fruit allowed to enter the U.S. market, following dragon fruit, rambutan, lychee, longan, and star apple. To clear way to sell its mangoes in the world’s biggest economy, the PPD applied for a licence in 2009.

The country has exported mangoes to 40 countries over the world. Its main importers are China, European countries, the Republic of Korea, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. 

 

Mango is one of Viet Nam’s fruits of strength with a total of nearly 90,000ha of farms nationwide, produce nearly 800,000 tons per year. In particular, Viet Nam has nearly 50 delicious mango varieties.

Regarding certified production and issuance of fruit tree planting area codes, the Agriculture and Rural Development Department in collaboration with the Plant Protection Department has granted 05 area codes for mango with an area of 110 hectares in EaHleo. Cutivation area about 970 ha, productivity is around 7.000 tons… Viet Nam ranks 13th in mango production in the world.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development sets the target till 2023, the mango production area is around   140, 000 ha, productivity about  1,5 million tons, export turnover will be lifted to 650 million USD.

Vietnamese Mango have been exporting to more than 40 countries, the main markets are China accounting for  84,6%; then Russia, US, Korea, EU, Australia, Japan ….
