Welcome to Vietnam in the Rambutan season!

Do you know which kind of fruit that has a name meaning “hair” in Malay?

No answer?

It is rambutan – a tropical fruit native to Southeast Asia. In Vietnam there are 3 typical types of rambutan which are longan rambutan, Java rambutan and Thai rambutan. Rambutan has the size of a golf ball a hairy red-green shell that resembles a sea urchin. The white flesh of this fruit has a light sweet taste and there is a seed in the center. Rambutan can be purchased frozen, fresh, canned, juiced or dried to make jam. With fresh rambutan fruit, you can rely on the color of its fleshy pliable spines to see if it is ripe. The redder the rambutan spines, the sweeter the fruit will be. The pulp of rambutan can be combined in many different recipes, salads, smoothies, ice cream, cakes, etc.

Rambutan is a very nutritious fruit which offers many health benefits such as: weight loss, digestive stimulation and increased resistance to infection. At these times eating rambutan is very fresh and cheap.

Rambutan fruit has long been recognized as the “golden” fruit of Vietnamese agriculture, not only brings high nutritional value, but also provides good economic efficiency for growers. It is also considered one of the signature summer-time fruits that tourists must try when they come to Vietnam. Early rambutan fruit will be harvested around early May and the main season rambutan will be collected around early July till August each year. Coming to Vietnam by this time of the year, surely you can both admire the magnificent Vietnamese rural beauty, immerse yourselves in nature’s scent and enjoy the best rambutan fruits in the best season.
